One 16 oz container covers 37.5 sq. ft. or 975 end cuts. It's highly recommended to protect end grain cuts to avoid checks and splits. However, due to variations in wood species, climatic conditions, and individual application methods, results are not guaranteed.
To apply WiseSeal®, begin by using a synthetic brush or stain pad, starting from the bottom edge of the board and brushing upward. Wipe off any excess product from the surface, as it may repel future surface coatings. Do not use the product if the air or surface temperature is below 45°F (7.22°C) or above 95°F (35°C), and avoid applying it during rain or if rain is expected. Do not thin the product—mix it well by stirring or shaking thoroughly before use. Test a small area to ensure acceptable appearance and penetration. Apply the first coat to the end cuts, and a second coat can be applied once the first coat is still damp but within one hour. For optimal results, apply in the shade, avoiding direct sunlight. Do not combine WiseSeal® with other waterproofing products, and be sure to remove any excess product, wiping away drips or runs that haven't soaked in.
WiseSeal® is a water-based, ultra-low VOC, eco-friendly sealant that prevents end checks and drying splits while stabilizing wood to resist warping. It penetrates below the surface, creating a flexible, breathable barrier that resists water and mildew penetration. To ensure proper application, clean the board ends before applying WiseSeal®, and after 24 hours, the ends can be painted or stained to match any surface finish or coating color. This non-toxic formula is safe for people, pets, and plants, offering easy soap-and-water clean-up. However, avoid using oxidizers, corrosives, or strippers on treated ends to maintain its protective properties.
