Hardwood Surface Preperation
Regularly clean dirty or grey hardwood prior to implementing Ipe Oil® or Ipe Oil® Plus™. Apply DeckWise® Deck & Wood Cleaner Part 1, a powdered concentrate. Permit hardwood to totally dry for a minimum of 24 to 48 hours. Prior stained or treated lumber should be adequately weathered to allow for complete penetration of Ipe Oil®or Ipe Oil® Plus™. Newer hardwood must be aged at least 6-8 weeks and also cleaned prior to applying oil.
Special Instructions
Prior to applying, this particular product must be stirred thoroughly. Make sure that any settled material on the bottom of the can is equally incorporated, then intermix all canisters. Utilize Ipe Oil® or Ipe Oil® Plus™ whenever surface temperatures are around 45F and 90F. If hardwood surface is hot to the touch, it is actually too hot to use the oil. Do not apply oil if rain is expected within 24-48 hours.
Brush, Roller, & Rag Application
To reduce lapping, keep a wet edge lengthwise and also do not break in the center of planks. One layer is adequate for many applications. Continuously rub oil into the hardwood boards parallel to the wood grain. Any oil not absorbed into the wood inside of 30-45 minutes should always be thoroughly and completely wiped off to prevent surface sheen and tackiness.
Spray Application
Whenever spraying on oil, back brush or roll surface to prevent runs and sags. Cover neighboring areas to shield from over spray. For airless sprayer, use a .015” to .019” tip for best results. Oil not absorbed into the hardwood within 30-45 minutes is required to be thoroughly removed to prevent tackiness as well as surface sheen.
Wipe Off Excess Oil

Clean Up & Disposal
Paint thinner may be used. Discard of waste material in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Danger - Rags, steel wool and any waste soaked with Ipe Oil® or Ipe Oil® Plus™ could spontaneously catch fire when incorrectly discarded. Immediately following each use, place rags, steel wool and all waste in a water filled metal container and seal it with a lid prior to disposal.
Maintenance
Clean and brighten hardwoods at least one time per year. Use the DeckWise® Deck & Wood Cleaner Part 1 and DeckWise® Deck & Wood Brightener Part 2 or use the easy all-in-1 DeckWise® Deck Maintenance Kit with all the tools and products needed in a single handy package.
